Towards the end of every calendar year, all shipping providers publish what their new retail rates are going to be going into the next year. UPS and FedEx have been hovering around 4-5% increases annually. The United State Postal Service is a different creature. Yes, most times they have a price increase. The process to get the increase is much more complex, as would be expected with a government operation. An advisory board called the Postal Regulatory Commission works with the USPS. They help set delivery standards, make sure they USPS is acting in accordance to their governing laws, and direct the USPS in making price adjustments. January 27th, 2019, the USPS will have one of the biggest increases that I can remember in recent history. Stamp prices increase from $0.50 to $0.55. Flat rate envelopes increase from $6.70 to $7.35. Flat rate boxes also increase an average of 6.5%.
